Swan receives Henry tax report

23 Dec, 2009 02:36 PM
The Federal Government has received the Henry Tax Review, but will not issue it publicly until next year.

Treasurer Wayne Swan said he received the report of the Australia's Future Tax System today, but would not speculate on its contents until early next year, when he would issue it and the Government's initial response.

The community provided 1500 formal submissions and more than 4700 letters to the review team and participated in discussion forums held across the country.

Mr Swan thanked the review panel members, Treasury Secretary Ken Henry, Department of Family, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs Secretary Jeff Harmer, University of NSW Professor John Piggott, Australian Industry Group chief executive Heather Ridout and Australian Catholic University Professor Greg Smith.

''The report will provide the foundations for a long-term plan for reform, to make our tax and transfer systems fairer, simpler and more competitive,'' he said.
