Sydney teen lost at Charlotte Pass

07 Sep, 2010 09:30 AM
Police will this morning resume a search for a developmentally delayed 15-year-old boy who spent last night in freezing conditions at Charlotte Pass.

Evan Greenwood, from Sydney, was last seen by his family about 9.30am when he told them he was going skiing.

When he did not return by lunchtime, his relatives alerted resort staff at Charlotte Pass who started searching for him.

It is believed there initially was some uncertainty about whether Evan was in the resort's village or on the slopes. It was established he was not in the resort village.

At 4pm police and emergency services were notified and commenced a further search. The search involved police from Monaro Local Area Command, SES volunteers, NSW Fire Brigades and National Parks personnel. Alpine operators have been called to provide advice on the terrain and conditions.

The search was abandoned about 8pm and will resume at 6am today.

Charlotte Pass is Australia's highest ski resort, located about 8km from Perisher Valley.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast a possibility of snow overnight, with temperatures to drop to minus 6 degrees.
