A former music teacher at a Canberra school who had an affair with a female student has been cleared of underage sex charges.
Derek Siddon was acquitted yesterday of having sex with the girl on 10 occasions in 2005 before she turned 16, with Supreme Court Justice Malcolm Gray finding that the case against the former teacher had not been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The 33-year-old former Daramalan teacher admitted conducting the affair with the girl but denied having sex with her until after she turned 16.
The trial, that ran for six days in August and September, turned on the question of exactly when in 2005 the sex between the student and teacher began.
