Chief Magistrate Ron Cahill has lashed out at Canberra's police forensic services, saying ''hopeless'' delays in DNA tests were hindering the administration of justice.
He made the comments yesterday while hearing the case of a man who allegedly bound his five-year-old stepson with sticky tape and left him alone for several hours.
Crucial DNA test results from Australian Federal Police's forensic services were not yet ready.
The Chief Magistrate told the court the delay was unacceptable.
''It really is totally unsatisfactory and it's really starting to hamper the administration of justice in the territory,'' he said.
