The Rural Fire Service has declared a total fire ban for the ACT with temperatures expected to reach 35degrees this afternoon.
There is a severe fire danger rating in place for the area, signifying the potential for uncontrollable and fast-moving fires.
The fire ban means no open fire may be lit until at least midnight tonight, with the use of power tools including welders and angle grinders permissible with the approval of the Emergency Services Agency.
The fire threat is expected to ease later in the week, with heavy rain predicted tomorrow.
