Two north Canberra schools have joined the University of Canberra in a partnership aimed at improving access to higher education.
Kaleen High School and Lake Ginninderra College will take part in the project from next year, which will focus on curriculum alignment, university transition and models for providing best-practice teaching.
The program will also see student teachers at the university spend time at both schools to improve their skills.
The partnership is the first of its kind in the ACT.
Education Minister Andrew Barr said the program might be a model for the development of education in Canberra.
''The main goal is to improve the pathway for students from junior high school through college and tertiary education.''
The program will also be used by the ACT Department of Education and Training to carry out research.
Mr Barr said the main goal of the program would be to improve pathways for students between high school, college and university or training.
The initiative is also planned to feed into the ACT Government's learn-or-earn proposal, which aims to have all children aged under 17 enrolled in education, training or employment. Consultation will take place with parents of children at the two schools in coming months.
