CANBERRA'S final chapter in the Utegate affair drew to a close yesterday in a quiet suburb overlooking the Brindabella Mountains.
In front of an audience of 50 curious onlookers and potential buyers, the home of former Treasury official Godwin Grech went under the hammer for $560,000.
As first reported by the Sunday Canberra Times last month, Mr Grech listed his Calwell property for sale so as to move to Melbourne to be closer to family.
Mr Grech who has rarely been seen since his Senate Estimates appearance which sparked the OzCar fake email scandal was not present at the auction, but was patched into proceedings by telephone.
Prospective buyers were granted a peek into the inner sanctum of the figure who dealt the first of many hammer blows to then Opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull's career.
