A WOMAN who spent almost five days on the run after allegedly taking her two children out of school unlawfully has been remanded behind bars.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard she went to ''extreme lengths'' to evade police, including changing her hair colour and disguising herself and her children in baggy clothes.
The 36-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was refused bail following her arrest on Friday evening.
She faced court yesterday charged with two counts of unlawfully taking a child.
The court heard the woman had joint custody of the children with their father and the ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services.
Detective Constable Scott Raven, attached to ACT Policing's territory investigations group, told the court the woman took the two children from their inner-north school on Monday afternoon.
He said the woman entered the school while the children were in class at 2.15pm.
