BA risks setting up a 'bush' competition, Petrie says

12 May, 2009 03:45 PM
Canberra-based basketballer Anthony Petrie fears the NBL will be reduced to a ''bush league'' if Basketball Australia does not postpone the formation of a revamped elite competition.

The Melbourne Tigers became yesterday the second club in a week to withdraw an application to play in the new league.

Their exit followed last season's premiers the South Dragons and meant any competition played this year was likely to exist without teams in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne.

New BA chief executive Larry Sengstock will make an announcement on the league's future today.
