A last-quarter surge ensured the Canberra Capitals remained in the WNBL championship race as they rallied to beat the Townsville Fire 89-69 at the AIS Arena last night.
In the sloppiest game of the Capitals' title defence, they were forced to come from behind in the second half to record their fifth win of the season.
A Marianna Tolo spurt in the last quarter helped Canberra out score the Fire 32-13 in the dying stages and guide her team to a grinding 20-point win.
Despite the inconsistent performance, Tolo arguably had her best game of the year and dominated at both ends of the court.
The 196cm forward finished the match with a triple double 21 points, 10 rebounds and 13 blocks.
The win kept the Capitals in the league's top five and they get a chance to rest their bruised and battered bodies with a bye next weekend.
