Seven-time WNBL champion Nat Hurst hopes a new mental toughness and a three-month stint bossing the world's best player around will keep her world-championship dream alive.
The Canberra Capitals point guard remains hopeful she will retain her spot in Carrie Graf's Australian Opals squad which will be announced in the coming week.
And after her starring role in the Capitals' grand final win over the Bulleen Boomers last Saturday, Hurst is keen to impress on the international stage.
The Opals will defend their world championship title in the Czech Republic from late September.
Hurst is behind Olympians Kristi Harrower and Tully Bevilaqua with Erin Phillips also fighting for a bench spot.
But after the most mentally exhausting season of her career, she hasn't ruled out being a world championship bolter.
''I'd like to make the squad,'' Hurst said. ''If you make the squad you can make the camp and then anything can happen from there."
Hurst, Lauren Jackson, Abby Bishop, Marianna Tolo and Carly Wilson are all likely to be selected in the Opals' training squad.
But for now, the Capitals want to continue partying.
They met at Wilson and Tolo's house in costumes to celebrate Mad Monday and bask in the glory of a thrilling grand final win.
The ACT Government is keen to honour the players at the Celebrate Canberra weekend at Stage 88 on Saturday as well as a lap of honour at the Brumbies' game against the Durban Sharks at Canberra Stadium on the same night.
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope is also keen to build a statue of Jackson in recognition of the 28-year-old's contribution.
''Lauren Jackson is regarded as the world's best - for me there's logic in according her the same honour we've given to Laurie Daley and Mal Meninga.''
The statue of Jackson would be placed at either the AIS Arena or a new Basketball ACT centre of excellence which will be built in the coming years.
