Abby Bishop is confident of playing an integral role in the Canberra Capitals' WNBL title defence.
But for now her involvement will be limited to cheering from the stands as the all-star forward begins her five-month rehabilitation following shoulder surgery this week.
It's an unfamiliar situation for the 20-year-old who has only missed a handful of games since joining the AIS in 2004.
Bishop is unlikely to take part in the Capitals' season before Christmas.
''This will be the longest time I've ever had out of basketball, I've only had one other injury,'' Bishop said.
''It's all first time and I've just got to look to get through it and hopefully come through alright.
''It's disappointing but injuries happen and I've just got to look at the bright side.''
Canberra coach Carrie Graf conceded Bishop would leave a huge hole in the Capitals' squad and has already started searching for a replacement player.
