Lauren Jackson is no stranger to hard work, but even she reckons the Canberra Capitals' ''intense'' training schedule is one of the toughest in world basketball.
And it's Carrie Graf's ruthless regimen that has the international superstar confident the Capitals will only get better as the WNBL finals fast approach.
The defending champions flew to South Australia yesterday to prepare for their game against the Adelaide Lightning today.
They need to beat the Lightning and then upset the top-of-the-ladder Bulleen Boomers next weekend to secure second place and the right to possibly host the grand final.
If they fail in both matches, they will be relegated to third and their path to back-to-back titles will be made more difficult.
But Jackson, who has played in the world's top competitions in Europe, South Korea and the United States, put Canberra's championship contenders on notice.
''We train really hard and I had this conversation with Graffy during the week I think our practices are harder than the games,'' Jackson said.
''We've got to get better in every game and hopefully by the time we play Adelaide we'll be rolling.
''I think we've seen spurts of really, really great basketball and if we can pull that together 75per cent more of the time then I think we'll be looking good.
''Our training is really intense with Abby [Bishop], [Marianna] Tolo and Tracey [Beatty] and even Hannah [Lewis], we don't even train this hard overseas and it's good for me, I'm definitely getting better.''
The Capitals have won their past eight games and Jackson is yet to taste defeat in her seven matches since returning to the WNBL.
She top scored with 27 points in her team's 90-59 win over the Perth Lynx on Friday night.
But while the 28-year-old continued her strong form, it was Beatty's performance against the Lynx that impressed the triple Olympian the most.
Since Jackson joined Canberra in December, 202cm Beatty has played a reduced role in most matches from the Capitals' bench.
