Canberra cyclist Caroline Buchanan believes her weekend win over Olympians Sarah Walker and Nicole Callisto proves the International Cycling Union should have allowed her to compete in Beijing.
Buchanan returned to BMX racing for the first time in five months and claimed the NSW championships ahead of New Zealand Olympian Walker and Australian representative Callisto.
The UCI prevented the 17-year-old from competing in Beijing because its minimum age for the inaugural BMX event was 19.
''To get back on a BMX again after five months I didn't have too many expectations knowing they'd just come back from Beijing,'' Buchanan said.
''It wasn't an easy win, but it was pretty convincing so I was happy with it.
''It kind of proved a point not being able to compete [at the Olympics] because of my age, but then beating the girls when they've come back.''
Buchanan has focussed on mountain bike racing since missing out on the Olympics, but said her long-term goal was to race BMX at the London games in 2012.
''It still would have been great to be in Beijing and get that little bit more experience,'' she said.
''We tried to speak about it with the UCI, but they said they just wanted to take the elite category and they didn't want to take any juniors.''
Buchanan will now turn her attention to the first two national rounds of the mountain bike four cross series at Sydney Olympic Park in a fortnight.
After recently graduating from Erindale College she said she now had more time to devote to her racing.
''But Erindale College really helped me out with finishing school while I was travelling around the world and racing.
''I'm just going to concentrate on the bike stuff for a little while.''
Canberra BMX dirt jumper Cameron White is just one strong performance away from claiming the lucrative Dew Tour series in America next week.
White is leading the tour heading into the final round in Orlando starting on October 16.
He finished last year's tour in second place behind legendary American dirt jumper Ryan Nyquist.
