AN EFFICIENT bowling performance from Weston Creek yesterday left the premier in a strong position to reclaim a spot in the top four.
Creek dismissed Ginninderra for 181 in a rain-affected match at Kippax Oval, and will resume at 1-9 next week.
Should it chase down the runs successfully, the Creek will move back into the play-off picture at the expense of either Tuggeranong or North Canberra-Gungahlin, which are playing each other this round.
With his team's position in the finals far from secure, captain Cade Brown said next week's run chase was one of the most crucial this season.
''We're outside the four so every game's important,'' Brown said.
''We've got a lot of work to do, a nice week of weather would be nice but we've got a bit of work to do next week.
''You can't control the other games you've just got to make sure that you do well yourself, and we played some good cricket [yesterday] and so did they.
''You've got to give credit to the opposition, you can only play as well as they allow you to and I thought they played pretty well on a reasonable pitch.''
Not a ball was bowled in yesterday's match between fellow top-four aspirants Queanbeyan and Wests-UC, giving Brown's team a chance to pick up some cheap points on its opponents. But the result is far from over, with Ginninderra hungry to bring up its first win of the season.
Dangerous Creek all-rounder Christian Hanna has already been dismissed and Tigers captain Andrew Kiley said his team was still in the contest.
''There's still plenty to get through next week but we've got the runs on the board, they need to chase it, so if we bowl well next week we'll give ourselves a good shot,'' Kiley said.
