ACT Meteors skipper Kris Britt says her team is ready to launch an assault on the Women's National Cricket League 50-over format after continuing its undefeated start to the Twenty20 competition yesterday.
Britt was instrumental in guiding the Meteors to their second win of the Twenty20 season in a nail-biting finish against the South Australian Scorpions at Manuka Oval.
Despite cruising for most of their innings, it took a Charlotte Anneveld boundary with four balls remaining to lift the Meteors to victory.
They play the Scorpions today and tomorrow in the opening matches of the domestic one-day series.
Britt, who played for South Australia for nine seasons, said the Meteors had proven they deserved their spot in the WNCL.
''There's no doubt we've got improvement in us even though we've got two wins,'' Britt said.
''We're a really young team and we're going to be learning the whole way through. If we can continue to execute our plans then we're going to be right in every game we go into.''
After losing the toss and being sent on to field, the Meteors were reeling as the Scorpions got off to a flying start. The visitors were 0-67 off just seven overs before Sally Moylan claimed Julie Woerner for 45.
Australian representatives Karen Rolton and Shelley Nitschke failed to fire and Britt (2-14) took two wickets in three balls to restrict South Australia to 7-128.
ACT openers Laura Wright (44) and Leonie Coleman (33) got the Meteors off to a perfect start and took the score to 74 before Coleman was run out.
