New Zealand has emphatically squared its one-day cricket series with the West Indies by cruising to a seven-wicket victory in game three at Wellington Stadium yesterday.
After the West Indies floundered to 128 all out in 41.4 overs, New Zealand showed flawed stroke-making was contagious as it lost three for six in 12 balls before reaching its target with an abundant 29.3 overs in reserve.
Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder and the luckless Jamie How raised West Indies hopes after their expansive shots were gleefully accepted in the field.
Ultimately however the tourists' total was woefully inadequate.
New Zealand reached its target with ease after Ross Taylor and Daniel Flynn survived early let-offs to plunder 89 from 79 balls for the fourth wicket.
Taylor was unbeaten on 51, reaching his half century with his third six, while Flynn was not out 23.
Also yesterday, West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard escaped censure after expressing his anger at a poor umpiring decision by smashing a window.
Pollard swung his bat in disgust when he was adjudged lbw by English umpire Mark Benson and also boiled over in the players tunnel when he used his bat to break a window panel and dent a door. Pollard, fighting to retain his place in the West Indies side after scoring just six runs in the two previous one-dayers against New Zealand, was dismissed for one though replays showed the delivery by Daniel Vettori clipped the bat before it connected with his front pad.
