A STUBBORN half-century by Nick Owen saved Ginninderra from outright defeat at the hands of ANU at Kippax yesterday.
ANU easily chased down Ginninderra's first innings total of 135 yesterday morning after resuming at 5-117.
The students skipped to 7-198 before a lower order batting collapse saw them all out for 199.
Nishadh Rego (50) and Richard Muir (45) were the best of the batsmen for ANU.
Despite only holding a 64-run lead, ANU sent Ginninderra in to bat in search of an outright win.
ANU struck immediately when Nathan Docker had James Coates caught for two.
But an 86-run partnership between Owen (58) and Leigh Sherman (33) and four dropped catches allowed Ginninderra to avoid outright defeat.
Anthony Lark (34 not out) helped Ginninderra push to 4-133 at tea before the match was called to a close.
ANU captain Randall Starr said the dropped catches soured the victory.
