THE biggest surprise in today's ACT women's AFL grand final is that Eastlake isn't playing in it.
After eight years of playing in ACTWAFL deciders and winning most of them, today's final is between Tuggeranong and Ainslie.
The last time Eastlake didn't make the final was in 2001.
But this year Ainslie knocked out Eastlake in the semi-final last week and Tuggeranong beat the Riverina Lions to earn its place.
According to the teams' captains, today's grand final could go either way.
Tuggeranong captain Angela Ballerini said it would be a physical game.
Tuggeranong won its last premiership in 2007 and is aiming to win its third ACTWAFL premiership.
''We've beaten them twice this year and they have beaten us once and I think we match up very well on them actually, but it's going to be very tough physical game,'' Ballerini said.
After losing last year's grand final to Eastlake, Ainslie captain Hannah Gill said that her team wanted to win. Ainslie won its one and only ACTWAFL premiership in 2001.
''We will definitely be playing an attacking game, I think we have a very even team, but you still have to score goals so we'll be doing everything we can to drive forward and get it to our forward line,'' Gill said.
Whatever the outcome today, Ballerini said it had been a great year in terms of improving the women's competition. This year there were eight women's teams in the ACTWAFL, more teams than in the men's first division competition.
