Hilditch considers Krejza recall

20 Nov, 2009 08:15 AM
Cricket Australia selection boss Andrew Hilditch has offered encouragement to Tasmania's Jason Krejza, saying the discarded off-spinner was considered for a recall for next week's first Test against West Indies.

While Australia has stuck with Nathan Hauritz in its 12-man squad for the Brisbane Test on November 26, Hilditch said the 26-year-old Krejza was doing all the right things.

Krejza was dropped 11 months ago after taking 1-204 in his second Test appearance, against South Africa in Perth.

Hauritz, who has taken 24 wickets in his seven Tests, was overlooked for the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval in August. But he is now set to get a dream run this summer in the six home Tests against West Indies and Pakistan.

''I've always said we really should be looking to play a spinner in most conditions,'' Hilditch said yesterday. ''My expectation is that we'll be playing a spinner [in Brisbane].

''Hauritz is bowling very well, getting better and better, but Krejza we think has made a lot of progress.

''Krejza was definitely considered. He's bowling well so that's a really good thing.''
