Injuries to take the edge off Canberra's forward adventures

22 Nov, 2009 09:49 AM
CANBERRA United is in dire danger of fielding a depleted strikeforce in today's W-League clash against the Jets in Newcastle.

Attacking weapons Tseng Shu O and Ashleigh Sykes hardly trained this week after sustaining injuries last weekend.

Tseng, who is Canberra's leading goalscorer with four, injured an adductor muscle in last weekend's win over Perth Glory, while Sykes injured an ankle.

Adding to coach Ray Junna's headache is that United's only other out and out striker, Ellie Raymond, will definitely not play.

Raymond corked a quad at training on Friday night.

She will be sorely missed after scoring her first W-League goal last weekend when she came off the bench against Perth Glory and caused havoc in the final 30 minutes.

But Junna has adopted a stoic attitude to his striking problems.

''It is a bit of a worry, but I think we certainly have that ability to score within the rest of the team,'' Junna said.

''We'll have Emily van Egmond back and she can slot into one of those roles up front well, we can push Grace [Gill] up neither of those players have scored this year. Jen Bisset is another one that scores plenty of goals in training but hasn't scored in the W-League yet.
