Lack of finish keeps United pointless

THE absence of a noted goalscorer hurt Canberra United again yesterday as it just missed out on a point in its first W-League game at home this season.

Goals from two of Sydney FC's internationals proved the difference in the sky blues' 2-1 win over United at McKellar yesterday.

An Ellie Brush goal from a set piece in the 90th minute was a late consolation for the Canberra team.

The goal came from a corner kick straight after a chance from Ashleigh Sykes that summed up Canberra's afternoon.

Taiwan international Tseng Shu-o played the ball into the box and then crossed to Sykes at close range. But she kicked straight to Sydney goalkeeper Nikola Deiter. The rebound fell to Sykes, who kicked it back to the keeper.

Earlier United strikers Sykes, 17, and Ellie Raymond, 19, both had chances but failed to finish off.
