Sydney golfer Sarah Kemp believes she can continue her strong form and make an impact on Australia's major tournaments after winning in Canberra yesterday.
Kemp collected her fifth career victory at the Royal Canberra Golf Club pro-am, holding off a strong field to win by two shots.
The 23-year-old will play in the NSW, New Zealand and Australian Opens and the Ladies Masters over the next month before returning to the US LPGA tour in March.
Since turning professional three years ago, Kemp has only won pro-am events.
But now she wants to prove she can win major and professional tournaments across the world.
''I don't really know what it is about pro-ams but I guess I just love the atmosphere and really enjoy playing,'' Kemp said. ''I feel like I played pretty consistent all day really and I got here nice and early and was ready to go.
''But the goal is obviously now to win some bigger tournaments and I've got another pro-am first so hopefully that form continues.''
Kemp played the back nine first and shot one under before blitzing the front nine.
Canberra golfer Nikki Campbell and South Australian Susie Matthews attempted to catch Kemp but her three-under par 68 was enough to win the event.
Kemp joined the European Tour in 2005 and but said her goal was to join the US circuit.
Last year was her rookie US season and she played 20 tournaments.
She said she needed to improve her putting to be a threat during the Australian season.
''When you're out there you're not really thinking about what you can improve on,'' Kemp said.
''But when I look back there were a few three-putts that I didn't want to have and I want to get that out of my game.''
Campbell was disappointed with her 71 but said it showed what she needed to work on before challenging for the major titles. It was her first competitive round since playing in Singapore in November.
She will miss the New Zealand Open but said she needed to trust her game and control her nerves to be successful in Australian tournaments.
''I definitely didn't play as well as I would have liked but I held it together well I think,'' Campbell said. ''In the end it's good because I can see what needs to be done going into the bigger tournaments.
''I had a lot of wedge shots in but I wasn't getting them close enough to make birdies.''
