Wagga Wagga trainer Paul Kahlefeldt hopes his stable's recent rich vein of form will continue when eight of his horses compete at the Canberra Harness Racing Club's meeting at Exhibition Park tonight.
Kahlefeldt has enjoyed a career-best start to a season, claiming 17 wins across NSW and the ACT since the beginning of September.
That includes four wins at Canberra, enough to have him leading the trainers' premiership after three meetings.
Kahlefeldt said one of his top hopes tonight was promising filly Queen of Courage, who will contest the night's feature race, the $6000 JW O'Sullivan Final (1730m).
Queen of Courage won her heat convincingly last week and has drawn ideally in gate one for the second week in a row.
''This time in she's been getting out very quickly and I was pleased when she led last week,'' Kahlefeldt said.
''I was really hoping to draw the same barrier, which she did, and I think if she can hold the lead she'll be very hard to beat again.''
Kahlefeldt has brought at least two floats of horses to every Canberra meeting this season.
That is a dramatic increase on previous years.
''I've been down in the past, but certainly not as much as this because the distance is always a concern,'' he said
''Unless you've got horses capable of being competitive you wouldn't go down.
''But I've had some pretty handy horses this year and the Canberra programs are very good, they've got some really good races that have been suiting my horses.''
Kahlefeldt also has top chances Franko Namesake and Meadow Cruza in the $5000 ACTTAB Pace (2170m).
Tonight's eight-race meeting kicks off at 6.50pm.
