German Chocolate on track for Railway run

10/10/2008 1:00:00 AM
Dual Group winner German Chocolate is being aimed towards next month's $1million Railway Stakes in Western Australia.

Trainer Paul Cave, who enjoyed success in the west with Respect winning last year's Perth Cup, said the Group1 Railway (1600m) at Ascot on November 22 would be German Chocolate's main target this campaign.

German Chocolate will attempt to win his first race beyond 1200m in the Birds Eye View Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill tomorrow.

Three-kilo claiming apprentice Nathan Berry will ride German Chocolate who jumps from barrier 14 at Rosehill.

''It's always shocking drawing the widest barrier and he'll need a few things to go his way but the horse is in very good order and ready for Saturday,'' trainer Cave said yesterday.

German Chocolate had no luck at his last outing when he was blocked for a run when finishing a close third to My Vegas in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on September 20.

''He hasn't had a lot of luck lately with the rain and not getting that run last time out but he continues to please and maybe we'll get some luck on Saturday, he is due,'' Cave said.

The Starlight was German Chocolate's first run since he finished ninth to Mr Baritone in the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June.

German Chocolate was unplaced on a heavy track in the Doncaster Handicap (1600m) won by Triple Honour before his sound sixth to Racing To Win in the All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick during the autumn.

The six-year-old scored his two biggest wins in August last year at Rosehill, in the Group2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) two weeks after claiming the Group3 Missile Stakes (1100m). AAP
