A decision on Vigor's immediate racing future will be made later this week after the owners continued to come to grips with the fact their horse won't contest the Melbourne Cup.
Vigor, part-owned in Canberra by Jason Mathie, was controversially left out of tomorrow's feature race.
He was 25th in ballot order when final declarations were taken on Saturday night and was banking on the Victoria Racing Club committee's discretionary power to elevate him into the race.
But he was left out, despite finishing third in the Caulfield Cup, winning the Group2 Makybe Diva Stakes in September and being high in betting markets all spring.
As a result, his owners have narrowed down to three options what to do next with the five-year-old. They will nominate him today for Saturday's Group3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) at Flemington.
Another option is saving him for the Group2 Sandown Classic (2400m) the next Saturday, while the third possible course of action is sending the horse for a spell.
Mathie understood a decision would be made by Wednesday.
''There's nothing wrong with the horse; in fact, he's very fit which is understandable considering 24 hours ago we were still hopeful of gaining a Melbourne Cup start. I'd imagine he would have another run this preparation but the stable will just see how he fares the next couple of days before any decisions are made.''
Vigor was backed from $21 in to $13 on ACTTAB Sportsbet for the Melbourne Cup on Saturday after it was confirmed one-time favourite Efficient had been scratched.
Those punters lost their cash because it was invested on fixed odds before the final field was declared.
