Braun back in for Bulldogs

27 Sep, 2009 10:55 AM
IT'S the sight Goulburn was desperate to see and West Belconnen wanted to avoid Bulldogs five-eighth Jeremy Braun running freely at training.

The key playmaker has recovered from a hamstring injury and will be fit to play in today's Canberra Raiders Cup grand final between the West Belconnen Warriors and Goulburn Bulldogs at Seiffert Oval.

Braun injured his leg in the Bulldogs' major semi-final loss to the Warriors a fortnight ago, the strain forcing him to miss Goulburn's preliminary final win over the Woden Rams last week.

The star pivot was at long odds to take to the field today but a strict regime of treatment over the past fortnight, including acupuncture before yesterday's light training session, has Braun raring to go.

The news means both clubs will field full-strength sides in today's clash.

West Belconnen and Goulburn completed their grand final preparations with light training sessions yesterday.

Watching quietly on the sidelines of Goulburn's training run was former country representative Ray Thorpe.

A shearer from New Euabalong in the NSW Central West, Thorpe made the four-hour journey to watch his son and Bulldogs hooker Nathan Morris contest today's final.

Bulldogs skipper Mick Dodson (lock) also hails from the small town to the north of Lake Cargelligo, recruiting Morris from the Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United Sharks to Goulburn this season.
