The West Belconnen Warriors couldn't manage it, but Tuggeranong Bushrangers coach Sean Rutgerson has little doubt his team can back-up successfully and progress beyond the first week of the finals.
Tuggeranong last night qualified for the play-offs with a 12-6 victory over West Belconnen, who had dispatched the Queanbeyan Kangaroos on Tuesday night to earn the right to play the Bushrangers.
The Bushrangers have little time to reflect on their win. They play the Goulburn Bulldogs tomorrow in an elimination semi-final.
A three-way play-off for fourth in the Canberra Raiders Cup forced two mid-week games to decide which team progressed to the finals.
And now that Tuggeranong has won the race, Rutgerson expects his players to go on with the job.
''We're backing up but we've got a team full of youngsters who are bursting with energy and enthusiasm so the whole two-games-in-three-days thing won't be an issue for us,'' Rutgerson said.
''Goulburn will obviously be out there to wear us down, just as we were to Westies tonight, but we're fit and fresh and will travel to Goulburn with a bit of confidence after this win.''
The Bushrangers and West Belconnen couldn't crack each others' line in the opening 40 minutes last night, heading into half-time locked at 0-0.
But three unconverted tries in 10 minutes after the break gave Tuggeranong a 12-0 lead which West Belconnen was unable to catch.
The Warriors had four tries disallowed last night but coach Adam Peters wasn't blaming the referee for the loss.
''We didn't execute well, we had our chances,'' he said.
''It was always going to be a big ask, backing up and all, but we did it to ourselves.''
