Canberra Raiders centre Joel Monaghan believes Saturday's two-point loss to Parramatta shows his team must improve how it handles controversy.
The Raiders were still stinging from the 18-16 loss yesterday, with a controversial no-try ruling against winger Justin Carney costing them their first win of the season.
While Monaghan remained adamant the try should have been awarded, he said the Raiders could have responded better to the decision and Jarryd Hayne's subsequent length-of-the-field try to turn the game.
The Eels scored a further two tries in 10 minutes after Hayne's effort, pinching the winning try with nine minutes remaining to leave the Raiders at the bottom of the ladder.
Monaghan said his team had further chances to win the game after Carney was denied.
''You've got to try not to let it get to you,'' Monaghan said.
''Personally I thought Justin had scored ... we were in control then and then they get a bit of a break.
''But even when they scored again and we were down by two we had eight minutes, we should be good enough to handle that.
''Little things can turn a game in a couple of minutes, so it's very disappointing.''
