 Campese back to blinding best

Campese back to blinding best

25 May, 2009 10:41 AM
Terry Campese took advantage of his final chance to impress NSW State of Origin selectors by guiding the Raiders to an impressive 38-12 win over the New Zealand Warriors at Canberra Stadium yesterday.

The five-eighth scored a try and kicked five goals as the Raiders snapped a four-game losing streak with the seven-tries-to-two win.

It was his last chance to impress selectors before the NSW team is named tonight and he didn't waste it.

The 24-year-old is in a three-way battle with Penrith's Luke Lewis and Newcastle's Jarrod Mullen to wear the NSW No6 jersey in Origin I in Melbourne on June 3.

He admitted he had been down on form over the past month and said a mid-week chat with coach David Furner had helped get him back on track. He said he had put Origin hopes out of his mind in the lead-up to the Warriors clash.

''I had to focus on trying to get the win with the boys first,'' Campese said. ''It was better than my last couple of games ... my main focus is on the Raiders.

''If I get selected that's a bonus.''

Campese and teammate Joel Monaghan were the only Raiders in line for NSW selection heading into yesterday's game, after captain Alan Tongue succumbed to a wrist injury that could rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Campo could play halfback for the blues as well as 5/8...he has been doing it all year for the raiders. Dont know why the raiders even have a halfback bc herbert was playing out in the centres yesterday

I was there, I saw the magic Campese weaved, incredible!. NSW couldn't do much better for a No. 6.

Terry Campese actually mixed some brilliance with a few crucial errors but the player who must have made selectors take notice yesterday was Tom Learoyd-Lahrs who was by far the best player on the paddock and a shot in the arm for Raiders supporters who have been waiting for years to see another Bradley Clyde emerge. Big Tom has been outstanding all year and has finally produced the potential many Raiders fans have been expecting since he first appeared in a lime green jumper. He's just the go-forward man the Raiders need to become an NRL force again.

Hot and cold Raiders - They've got a road trip to ANZ Stadium to play a very hot Rabbitohs side next week. let's wait and see if this is a 'return to form', or, another 'flash-in-the-pan' misfire!

John D - very hot Rabbitohs??, the won by a point 2 weeks ago and couldn't beat Parra... nothing hot there. In fact I would say there on a slide and without their origin players they will have NO chance,.. Go the Raiders!

I was reading an article the other day by Troy Thompson about how Royston Lightning could still be running arounds for the Green Machins, and it got me thinking: which other players should still get a run? I saw Albert Fulivai the other day and he was still looking very fit and fast. What do you think Waggles? Reality, what's your opinion?
