Terry Campese took advantage of his final chance to impress NSW State of Origin selectors by guiding the Raiders to an impressive 38-12 win over the New Zealand Warriors at Canberra Stadium yesterday.
The five-eighth scored a try and kicked five goals as the Raiders snapped a four-game losing streak with the seven-tries-to-two win.
It was his last chance to impress selectors before the NSW team is named tonight and he didn't waste it.
The 24-year-old is in a three-way battle with Penrith's Luke Lewis and Newcastle's Jarrod Mullen to wear the NSW No6 jersey in Origin I in Melbourne on June 3.
He admitted he had been down on form over the past month and said a mid-week chat with coach David Furner had helped get him back on track. He said he had put Origin hopes out of his mind in the lead-up to the Warriors clash.
''I had to focus on trying to get the win with the boys first,'' Campese said. ''It was better than my last couple of games ... my main focus is on the Raiders.
''If I get selected that's a bonus.''
Campese and teammate Joel Monaghan were the only Raiders in line for NSW selection heading into yesterday's game, after captain Alan Tongue succumbed to a wrist injury that could rule him out for the remainder of the season.
