TERRY Campese has never experienced anything on a football field quite like the moment a mob of chanting Canberra Raiders fans attempted to chair him from Toyota Stadium last night.
All he knows is that it was the perfect way to finish what he rated as one of the most important wins of his 51-game NRL career.
Campese led the Raiders to a stirring 24-14 victory over the Cronulla Sharks last night, helping erase the memory of last year's qualifying final loss at the same venue.
The Raiders' five-eighth came up with the key plays when his team needed them, conjuring Jarrod Croker's first-half try with a daring chip and chase, and sealing the result with a 75m dash to the tryline inside the final three minutes.
It was a performance that has taken him a step closer to NSW State of Origin selection and one that stamped him as one of the most outstanding playmakers in the competition.
