Terry Campese will get the chance to play out his NRL career for his home town club after agreeing to a long-term contract extension with the Canberra Raiders.
Two days after his State of Origin debut for NSW, the Queanbeyan-raised Raiders playmaker will today confirm his future rests in Canberra.
It is believed final discussions this morning will determine if he signs for four or five years.
While Campese has been in protracted talks with the Raiders and there has been interest from other clubs, he has long maintained his desire to stay with the club he joined as an 18-year-old in 2002.
The turnaround in Campese's fortunes has been extraordinary. Just a year ago the Raiders withdrew a three-year contract offer, pinning their hopes instead on recruiting Trent Barrett on his return from Europe.
When they missed out on Barrett, the Raiders moved to secure Campese for two years in a deal priced in their favour.
His extraordinary form towards the end of last season, capped by World Cup selection, and his selection for NSW this year gave him the leverage he needed to secure a long-term extension with the club on better terms.
