Canberra's ref rage

29 Mar, 2009 10:29 AM
FURIOUS Canberra Raiders officials will fire a ''please explain'' to NRL referees coordinator Stuart Raper, following a string of controversial decisions during last night's two-point loss to the Eels at Parramatta Stadium.

The Raiders were left seething by the performances of referees Steve Lyons and Chris James, after the Eels scored the final three tries of the game to pinch an 18-16 victory.

The loss has left the Raiders stranded at the bottom of the ladder after losing their first three games of the season.

The club was particularly irate that winger Justin Carney was denied a try in the 60th minute, which would have given his team a 16-point lead with a conversion to come.

Video referee Russell Smith ruled that Krisnan Inu had held Carney up just short of the line.

James sent the decision to Smith despite being on the spot to make the call.
