JUSTIN Carney could make a surprise return for the Raiders against Cronulla at Canberra Stadium today, despite still being hampered by a sternum injury.
Carney and prop David Shillington (back) both took part in the Raiders' captain's run yesterday in a last-ditch bid to prove their fitness.
Coach David Furner is keen to have the powerful Carney in his team for an expected torrid physical encounter with the resurgent Sharks.
But Furner said he wouldn't risk playing the 20-year-old if he didn't pull up 100 per cent from yesterday's workout.
''With Justin and Shillo, they've only just started coming back into the side this week,'' Furner said. ''We had a little bit of a session on Thursday night and they both pulled up a little bit sore.
''We were pretty good against Souths and I'm mindful about changing things.''
