If Canberra Raiders centre Joel Monaghan has learnt anything this year it's not to get his hopes up about representative selection.
So with just two club games left this season the last thing on the 27-year-old's mind is impressing the Australian selectors ahead of the upcoming Four Nations tournament.
Monaghan is one of a handful of Raiders with a chance of playing in England and France in October and November.
Back-rower Bronson Harrison is a near certainty to be in the New Zealand line-up, while forwards David Shillington and Tom Learoyd-Lahrs are outside chances of making the Australian squad.
Monaghan played on Australia's wing during last year's World Cup campaign.
But after a string of selection snubbings this season he said he wasn't holding his breath at the prospect of pulling on the green and gold jersey again.
''If this year has taught me anything it's just to play footy and let everything else happen as it does,'' Monaghan said.
