Coach says ref cost Raiders

FURIOUS Canberra Raiders coach David Furner launched a spirited post-match tirade against the match officials who oversaw the game that ended his team's finals hopes last night.

The Raiders are virtually no chance of playing a part in the NRL finals, after they crashed to a 27-14 loss to Penrith at CUA Stadium, in a game marred by controversial decisions.

The Raiders were duded by at least three video referee decisions in the opening half, the Panthers twice awarded tries that shouldn't have been given and rookie Canberra winger Daniel Vidot denied one that should.

It resulted in an 18-0 half-time deficit they were unable to overcome, despite outscoring the Panthers three-tries-to-one after the break.

Video referee Russell Smith had a shocker, awarding Panthers prop Frank Puletua the first try, despite the fact Raiders fullback Josh Dugan held him up over the line for at least four seconds.
