Coast holding out for Prince to play

25 Mar, 2009 01:00 AM
Gold Coast players are adamant skipper Scott Prince will play in Friday's NRL clash with ladder leaders the Bulldogs and overcome a worrying hamstring strain.

Prince was named in the Titans side yesterday despite missing training to have MRI scans on his hamstring.

The Titans have won just two of 10 games without the star halfback, but five-eighth Mat Rogers is adamant the 29-year-old will play.

Fullback Preston Campbell is on standby to play halfback for the first time since 2006 if Prince is ruled out, with prized recruit William Zillman to move from the bench to the custodian role.

''We're pretty confident, [it was] a little twinge but nothing he won't get over pretty quickly,'' Rogers said yesterday.

Coach John Cartwright will give Prince until the last minute before the big match at Skilled Stadium to recover.

South Sydney prodigal son Craig Wing will make his NRL return against Newcastle at Gosford on Sunday following after off-season surgery, added to the bench for Jamie Simpson.

Beau Champion has been added to the centres with Shaune Corrigan moving to the wing for suspended flyer Nathan Merritt.

Sydney Roosters speedster Sonny Tuigamala will make his NRL debut on the wing against the Wests Tigers on Friday, with Sam Perrett moved to fullback to cover the extended loss of Anthony Minichiello. AAP
