Gritty is not a word you would normally associate with a line-up boasting names such as Hayne, Inu, Burt and Grothe.
But that is exactly what new Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson wants to instil in the Eels this season a harder edge to grind out results when the points aren't flowing.
After a disappointing first-up loss to the Warriors in round one, the Eels showed they were learning to win games ugly as they overcame South Sydney 14-8 last weekend.
And now Anderson wants that type of performance to become Parramatta's calling card in 2009.
''I'm a big believer in just getting our own shop in order and if we do that then we'll be hard to defeat,'' Anderson said.
''That's probably a goal of ours that if teams are going to beat Parramatta then they've earned it.
''We had to be tough and gritty [against Souths], you have to learn to win different ways in the NRL and that was a tough game against very good competition. To get your first win is a bit of a monkey off your back, it allows you to relax a little bit and morale's pretty high.''
Anderson retained the same side which beat the Rabbitohs for Saturday night's home game against Canberra. AAP
