Hinchcliffe storms to a positive move

17 May, 2009 11:10 AM
RYAN Hinchcliffe hates fighting the Melbourne traffic and sometimes misses his former teammates at the Canberra Raiders.

But those are the only negatives the 24-year-old has pinpointed from his move to the Melbourne Storm this season.

That's not surprising for a bloke Raiders prop Troy Thompson still affectionately refers to as ''Positive Pete'', or for one who has joined a club that has featured in the past three NRL grand finals.

While he has been used mainly as a utility off the bench, Hinchcliffe is just loving the fact he is playing for the Storm.

And he can't wait to play against his former team for the first time at Olympic Park tomorrow night.

''I'm really enjoying my time here in Melbourne, things are going really well,'' Hinchcliffe said.

''It has been great, all the boys have been really good and all the coaching staff have made it a really easy transition for me to slot in down here.

''[Coach] Craig Bellamy is a great person and he's a great coach as well.

''He's really good at getting the best out of people and he's been really good for me. I'm very happy.''

Hinchcliffe's role with the Storm has changed dramatically in the past three weeks, following former Parramatta playmaker Brett Finch's arrival at the club.

Before Finch joined the Storm, Test hooker Cameron Smith was regularly filling in at five-eighth for Melbourne.

That meant Hinchcliffe had plenty of opportunities to play in his favoured role of dummyhalf.
