Indigenous All Stars call up Raiders

21 Nov, 2009 10:55 AM
Tom Learoyd-Lahrs doesn't care what position he plays in the Indigenous All-Stars side, he's just glad to be involved.

The boom Canberra Raiders back-rower continued his stellar year when he was yesterday named in the Indigenous All Stars side to take on the NRL All Stars at Skilled Park on February 13.

Learoyd-Lahrs is joined by Raiders teammates Joel Thompson and Travis Waddell in the 20-man side.

It is Learoyd-Lahrs's third representative honour in 12 months, after previously lining up for NSW and the Prime Minister's XIII.

Learoyd-Lahrs was pushed into the front row for the third State of Origin match in Queensland and is likely to do so again for the Indigenous side.

Learoyd-Lahrs who boasts a South Seas Islander heritage from his maternal grandmother is not concerned.

''I'll play wherever they put me,'' Learoyd-Lahrs said.

Almost 20,000 rugby league fans voted on the Indigenous All Star side that includes Melbourne's Golden Boot winner Greg Inglis, superstars Justin Hodges, Johnathan Thurston, Scott Prince and recently retired dual international Wendell Sailor.

''To me it's pretty significant to be recognised by the fans,'' Learoyd-Lahrs said.

''The fans are the people that keep the game going, give us the opportunity to play so I'm really grateful and hopefully I can play well to justify my selection.''

While Learoyd-Lahrs was chosen by fan voting, Thompson and Waddell gained selection through coach Neil Henry and the ARL Indigenous Council.

Henry coached all three players during his tenure at the Raiders in 2007 and 2008.
