Kangaroos loss means finalists decided

24 Aug, 2009 08:15 AM
The Canberra Raiders Cup semi-finalists are locked in a fortnight before the play-offs after Tuggeranong and the Queanbeyan Kangaroos both lost yesterday.

The Bushrangers and Roos needed to upset Goulburn and West Belconnen respectively to remain in the hunt for a finals berth with one round of matches remaining.

But the top two teams were too strong, West Belconnen defeating the Kangaroos 40-16 and Goulburn edging out Tuggeranong 26-22.

The results mean Westies, Goulburn, Queanbeyan Blues and Woden will make up the top four.

The only thing this weekend's final round will determine will be the order in which the teams finish.

Goulburn has the bye, guaranteeing it two points, meaning West Belconnen must defeat Tuggeranong to win the minor premiership.

Warriors coach Adam Peters said he would focus on that challenge during the week in order to spark his players into action on Sunday.
