Learoyd-Lahrs leads Canberra charge

02 Jun, 2009 10:37 AM
Hulking Raiders back-rower Tom Learoyd-Lahrs insists his booming hit on South Sydney hardman Roy Asotasi last night was ''more arse than class''.

He also reckons State of Origin couldn't be further in the back of his mind.

But if he continues his outstanding form it won't be too long before it's impossible for him to make such understatements.

Learoyd-Lahrs produced another powerful display against the Rabbitohs last night, scoring a try and pulling off a bell-ringer on Asotasi, as the Raiders chalked up a much-needed 34-18 win.

Today he will continue his stellar month when he signs a two-year contract extension with the Raiders.

Learoyd-Lahrs was at pains to play down his form after the match, saying he was still searching for greater consistency.

But coach David Furner gave his most dynamic forward a rap, saying he and the rest of his pack had been very impressive.

''He's put together a couple of really good, solid games,'' Furner said.

''He's athletic, he's big. Tommy has certainly been very powerful.

''But I've got to give guys like Josh Miller and [Scott] Logan and [Dane] Tilse a mention.

''They just all put their hands up collectively I thought our forward pack were very good.''

here we go boys! the mid season form of last year! things are starting to click! i thought for once herby showed us that he is quite capable. mccrone played awesome, and what about big thommy! man that hit on asotasi was absolutley huuuge! i think purtell should be dropped and milne to wing with dugan at fullback. but then where do you fit justin carney in? i love phil graham but he seems to be a little past it, i hope im wrong. big wrap also to buttriss tilse logan monaghan miller plum croker tongue thurling. a premiership isint too far away!

raiders 09 - I totally agree with you re - Duges.. But Milne needs to be the fb.. He has a more potent attacking game and is stronger with kick returns.. Put Duges on the wing.. He is an exceptional defender... Purts.. Give him a go.. he is a solid player.. Graham still has a couple of seasons in him too.. The player we need to sort out is Carney.. Move him to the forwards... he can't take a high ball and always leaves huge holes in defence.. Look at Miller.. Carney would smash it up as a dynamic backrower off the bench! Credit to big Tommy Large.. Awesome display of speed, power and skill!! With the team performing like it is.. The finals beckon!! Bring it on boys!
