Logan to kilt up again for Scotland at the World Cup

Raiders fans will have a familiar face to cheer for when the Rugby League World Cup hits town in October after Canberra prop Scott Logan was selected in Scotland's squad yesterday.

Logan will participate in his second World Cup for Scotland, starting with a clash with France at Canberra Stadium on October 26.

He will be joined by Manly and former Raiders winger Michael Robertson and fellow NRL players Ian Henderson (New Zealand Warriors), Keith Galloway (Wests Tigers) and Chris and Nathan Armit (Bulldogs).

After representing the Scots on their home soil in 2000, Logan said he was looking forward to again representing the country in which his father was born.

''It's not something I've been thinking about since the last World Cup, but it's interesting me now, especially because the game is being played in Canberra,'' Logan said.

''For me it's more of a family sort of thing.

''My dad was a proud Scotsman and the whole family is Scottish.''

Scotland coach Steve McCormack has six NRL and 12 English Super League stars in his squad, but Logan said it was the second-tier Scottish players who would provide the spark.

''They had a pretty tough qualification process and they did really well to qualify with those guys from the tier below the Super League.

''I'm pretty sure if the majority of the squad comes from that they'll be quite passionate about trying to do well.

''When I decide to play I'm passionate about whoever I play for.''

Up to four players from this year's Raiders squad may compete in the World Cup. Back-rower Neville Costigan will play for Papua New Guinea while centre Joel Monaghan has been named in Australia's preliminary squad. Five-eighth Terry Campese has been tipped to win a spot in the Australian training squad to replace incumbent pivot Greg Bird, whose NRL career appears to be over after he allegedly glassed his girlfriend last Sunday.
