Terry Campese admits another bout of ''second-half syndrome'' could cost him a spot in the NSW team for State of Origin II on Wednesday week.
Campese had three try assists and kicked three goals but came up with a crucial blunder as the Raiders crashed to a 24-22 loss to Cronulla at Canberra Stadium yesterday.
The 24-year-old had a gripping battle with Cronulla five-eighth Trent Barrett, who is also in contention to be selected for NSW tonight.
Afterwards Campese admitted he had no idea if he would retain the NSW No6 jersey, while Sharks coach Ricky Stuart called on selectors to name Barrett, who made the last of his seven Origin appearances in 2005.
After setting up first-half tries to Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and Joel Monaghan to get the Raiders out to a 10-0 lead, Campese knocked on late in the game with Cronulla's Paul Gallen scoring the winning try two sets later.
His performance was a barometer of the entire Raiders team, which twice led by 10 points, only for the Sharks to snatch the win in the 77th minute.
Campese is not only vying with Barrett but also Newcastle's Jarrod Mullen for the coveted NSW No6 jersey.
''I'd love to be there, just hopefully I've done enough,'' Campese said.
''It's second-half syndrome lately, I haven't been playing too well, but hopefully my name gets read out.
''I'll be having a nervous sleep, just thinking about how we let that one slip today.''
