 Raiders game ref sin-binned

Raiders game ref sin-binned

01 Apr, 2009 07:09 AM
The referee who may have cost the Raiders victory over Parramatta has been dropped from this week's NRL round.

Chris James was left off the NRL match official appointment list for round four, with NRL referee's coach Robert Finch choosing to give the 32-year-old rookie a break.

Finch told The Canberra Times the decision to drop James for a week came after two below-par matches.

''I think the Eels and Raiders match was one match, but the week before also there was some discussion about his game and I think those things affect young referees,'' Finch said.

''It's just like a young footballer, they all make errors, and you have got to be able to learn from them and move on, but also take him out of the spotlight for a week.

''There will be others that will also have a week out in the coming weeks.''

Finch and Raiders coach David Furner spoke for about an hour yesterday about a number of decisions that went against the Raiders on Saturday night.

Furner was frustrated after the side's two point loss to Parramatta, and told the The Sunday Canberra Times there were ''some mistakes out there.''

Yesterday, Furner said he was pleased that some action had been taken by Finch.

''I will always look at what we are in control of and what the players need to improve on, but I did feel there were some mistakes by the officials that didn't help us out one bit,'' Furner said.

''They don't say they got it wrong, they describe it as a harsh decision, and Robert agreed there were some that were harsh.''

Raiders ALWAYS get the raw deal when we are playing away.. thats plan and simple. Chris James deserved to be dropped..!!

Canberra Faders not Raiders!

Why is it that the Raiders always seem to have the rookie referees? We never have the TV refs like Shayne Hayne refereeing our matches. Maybe if we got to play with the higher rated referees more often, we would get a better go.

You can't blame the refs for all the raiders losses, the should have put Parra away well before the last 10 minutes. I am a massive Raiders fan but WE need to start showing a bit more on the field before we start sooking. A good team will beat a bad ref all the time...

Oh, really original GMAN you think of that one yourself?? The raiders have played poorly lately but I do agree that they do not get the quality referees and the game suffers not just the Raiders. I do also agree with you Reality. The raiders need more mental toughness and you are absolutely correct "A good team will beat a bad ref all the time".

Pull out those green wooden spoons.... With you GMAN, the FADERS had there time in the 80's - never again, they will be lucky to win a game this year! Go the storm!!

Didn't they look into statistics last year and determine that the Raiders were the unluckiest team in the league??? Apparently if a decision can go either way it will almost always go against the Raiders. They are a young team and will improve throughout the season. At least they play with a bit of flair which is more than I can say for the Storm - most boring team in the league... how much did they lose the grand final by... 40-0 wasn't it?
