Raiders on the back foot with Campese injury scare

23 Apr, 2009 08:10 AM
The Raiders are confident five-eighth Terry Campese will play against the Bulldogs at Canberra Stadium on Sunday, despite their star playmaker failing to train this week because of a foot injury.

Campese is yet to return to training since suffering the injury during Friday night's loss to the Gold Coast Titans.

But Raiders captain Alan Tongue said the NSW State of Origin hopeful was in no doubt for the clash with the Bulldogs.

Tongue hoped Campese would be able to participate in tonight's opposed session.

More on Campese's chances of playing this weekend in today's Canberra Times

HOPE HE'S OK, YOU'D HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RAIDERS CHANCES OF WINNING IF HE'S NOT.

YEA YOUR RIGHT, THE RAIDERS WOULD IN TROUBLE IF HE DOSENT PLAY. YEA WE STILL HAVE THE REST OF THE TEAM BUT THE RAIDERS ARE A TEAM BUILT ON MOMENTUM AND IF WE WIN THIS MATCH THEN WE WILL BEAT THE PANTHERS BUT IF LOSE THIS MATCH THEN WE WILL MORE THAN LIKLY LOSE TO THE PANTHERS. SO DO HOPE CAMPO CAN PULL THROUGH.

I hope he is OK. I wonder what the exact diagnosis of this mystery foot injury is. My thoughts are as follows: 1) Possible stress fracture. This would be a worst case scenario. 2) Tinea. Slightly uncomfortable but I would back him to play. 3) Ingrown toenail. They hurt. Trust me. But I would suspect most NRL players to play with this (with the exception of Jarryd Hayne). 4) Tickly feet. Admittedly this is unlikely but I am quite a good lawyer and have learnt not to write anything off. Fingers crossed Campo. I'll be out there wearing my funky shoes and Raiders jersey.

I hope he's ok too. I think this injury must rank up there with the unemployment issue, interest rates, global warming, etc. As far as the injury is concerned, he is a league player so perhaps they cant get his foot out of his mouth.

Hopefully it may make the Raiders management realise that they need more than one playmaker in their team. Unfortunately as much as he tries hard, Herbert is not a playmaker and whilst he is there other teams quickly work out that the Raiders only have one option...Campo ! He's going to end up getting smashed by other teams and if I was him, unless the club comes up with another playmaker, I'd be leaving!

I bet he injured it in that play at the end of the Titans game where he stuffed up the field goal attempt and kicked the ground instead I wanna know who his backup is??

Spot on analysis Micky, as always. Want to catch up for a milkshake later this afternoon? I still need to return your Dido CD. Cheers, BK.

Does Dino or anyone know when Matt Gafa is likely to return to first grade? He could be precisely the second attacking option that Campo needs - although he is also a 5/8, so perhaps Brad Drew would be better. Any news on him either?

Deshawn Pavlier - He will have to be on the plane by now to play this weekend... He has been in the UK for around 3 seasons now...

Which one? Gafa or Drew? I don't think it is Gafa because I swear I saw him down at Kippax a couple of weeks ago when I was waiting for my Ocean Master to be cooked, and he looked like he was in game shape! Anyway, if he is coming back from England he will get here in time for the weekend because he'll be on one of those new A380s - they are heaps fast (or so I am told).
