Raiders out to dazzle in clash with Cowboys

06 Apr, 2009 11:19 AM
They came within a minute of becoming the first Raiders team to be held scoreless at Canberra Stadium a fortnight ago.

Now the Raiders are out to prove their intimidating home aura hasn't disappeared.

The Raiders are heading into tonight's clash with the North Queensland Cowboys desperate to get their first win of the season and show their fans they have not lost the dazzling attack they displayed during the back half of last season.

Despite copping a 28-4 hiding at the hands of the Sydney Roosters a fortnight ago, Raiders assistant coach Ian Millward said the team was feeling no added pressure heading into tonight's clash with former coach Neil Henry's Cowboys.

Millward said the Raiders were quietly confident after falling agonisingly short of upsetting the Eels at Parramatta Stadium last week.

''Internally there's definitely no pressure, I think if anything we gained a lot of confidence out of last week,'' Millward said.

''It was a really pleasing performance in the direction we're heading and the players' attitude. They were really consistent in most areas.

The Raiders have worked hard to build their fan base. If they don't perform tonight, it's going to be hard to keep a strong following at home. But I bet the Cowboys are going to struggle playing in temperatures below 10 degrees. Go the Raiders!!

In light of the Raiders success at the end of last season, why did the new coach feel it was necessary to introduce a new structure to the team? I woudl have imagined that as David Furner studied under Neil henry, he would have managed to contunue the same successful structure. It wasn;t broke, why did he try and fix it?

Raiders need to win this game to give some hope to their supporters and boost their spirits for this year. If they lose this then it will be very hard and I think they all know it. Raiders by 10 on a cold Canberra night.
