Rogers's hit was a dog shot: Vidot

VIDEO: Raider's Vidot charged for knee

Raiders winger Daniel Vidot says he reacted to a ''dog shot'' and is gutted at the prospect of not being able to play in front of his family in Brisbane on Sunday.

The Raiders have until midday today to decide whether to contest Vidot's grade-three contrary conduct and Bronson Harrison's grade-one dangerous contact charges at the NRL judiciary.

Vidot was charged for the attempted use of his knee on Newcastle five-eighth Ben Rogers in the Raiders' 30-14 win over the Knights on Monday night.

Rogers nailed the teenager with three punches and both were sent to the sin bin.

While Vidot said Rogers apologised after the match, he was shattered his planned family reunion was unlikely to go ahead.

''I guess it's footy and things like this happen but I thought it was a bit stupid of him to chuck a dog shot like that,'' Vidot said of Rogers's punch.

''It was spur of the moment, everything just happened in a flash.

''There's definitely some regret there, it sucks now that I don't get to see my whole family in Brisbane.

''They were all going to come out for the game and looking forward to it and it sucks.''

Its easy to beat the Judiciary, just wear a Dragons jumper and you get off... Soward, Poore etc etc...

Not being into footy, except unwillingly dragged in by the kids, watching the replay you'd have to call it (the knee) reflex, not reflex fighting but protection of Vidots body. I was surprised he got a suspension and think the Raiders SHOULD appeal, and as Reality just posted, Vidot could wear a Dragons jumper to the appeal - it wont hurt!

Vidot should not have been sent off. He didn't start it and Rogers' reaction was way over the top. The ref was conned into even considering it from the Knights players. And as for using the knees; what does one do when you're arms are pinned back and you're being clobbered by a thug?

See Phil Gould's comments in the SMH. According to him Vidot should have been given a talking to and that should be the end of it. I agree - Vidot did nothing that needs a suspension. It wasn't even in the course of play and everyone was going at it hammer and tongs.

Vidot did NOT connect with Rogers at any stage. So he is being punished for "missing" with the knee.... Does this now mean each time a player "misses" a high tackle or "misses" while swinging a pass they will be sited and charged also?. Where in the NRL rule book does it say that during a brawl "Only the hands may be used in defence of one's head",...... Blatant bias yet again from the NRL and the turkeys that run the joint....

The two players should be charged in a civil court and not simply put down to an onfield incident. Wake up NRL, stop hiding behind 'sport' your inaction is saying to the public that they can act like that as well and use alcohol or drugs or some other excuse to get off rather than treating it for what it is ... assult causing grevious bodily harm'

spike - You have obviously never played a contact sport in your life. Some of us love the physical contact and sometimes it gets out of hand but trust me, NONE of the players go out to start fights but at the same time they are not going to stand and let someone smash them in the face. Its a very small part of the game these days... back in the good ol days that would have been considered a minor scuffle and the ref probably wouldn't have stopped the game,... there are too may wowsers today that throw their 5 cents in that know NOTHING about the topic concerned. Back under you rock spike!.

They said Vidot would be out for 8 weeks if the knee connected!! And Rogers will get 3 for repeatedly throwing cheap shots when Vidot was defenceless. Which is worse?? It's an outrage! The video ref can spend all day looking at tries yet he can't look at the replay and see how wrong this was?
