Canberra Raiders captain Alan Tongue believes crowd support can sway NRL referees.
Speaking ahead of the Raiders' Canberra Stadium clash with Wests Tigers on Sunday, Tongue said a vocal crowd would boost his team's chances of winning contentious 50-50 calls.
His comments follow last week's controversial loss to the Panthers in Penrith, where the Raiders were on the wrong end of a string of bad decisions.
Tongue hoped his team would play in front of a large crowd on Sunday, despite the team's low standing on the ladder and the fact there is an AFL match at Manuka Oval on the same afternoon.
He said crowd support could sway things in the Raiders' favour should it be a close game.
''It helps with a few refereeing decisions when the crowd is getting behind you,'' Tongue said.
''It's definitely helped sides when we've been away. Whether it has helped us at home a couple of times I'm not too sure.
''But I think it only helps with the momentum of the game when the crowd gets involved. Usually the referees go with them.''
