Alan Tongue's wrist injury hurt so much that he struggled to lift his daughters in and out of the car.
But despite the discomfort and loss of strength in his right hand, the Canberra Raiders captain soldiered on for the remainder of the season, even playing out of position to help his team.
Tongue will finally have surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his wrist in Sydney today, more than four months after he feared his season was over.
He will wear a cast for eight weeks and be unable to resume full training for at least three months.
